Govt Services — FAQ

Can I have multiple PAN cards? What if I have two?

No — holding more than one PAN card is illegal under Section 272B of the Income Tax Act. Penalty: ₹10,000. If you accidentally have two PANs, surrender the duplicate immediately at your nearest Income Tax office or online at incometax.gov.in → Request for Surrendering PAN. Keep only the older PAN or the one linked to your bank accounts.
My Aadhaar mobile is lost. How do I update it?

Mobile number update cannot be done online — you must visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar enrollment centre in person. Biometric authentication (fingerprint) is required. Bring any one identity proof. The service is free. After mobile update, you can access all online Aadhaar services again. Find your nearest centre at appointments.uidai.gov.in.
Is it safe to apply for government documents through agents?

Strongly avoid private agents/CSC operators for document applications. All government services can be done directly online for free or very low official fees. Agents often overcharge, make errors, or misuse your documents. If you need in-person help, use only official government Common Service Centres (CSCs) identified at csc.gov.in. Never share your Aadhaar OTP with anyone.
I changed jobs. What happens to my PF? Will I lose it?

No, you don't lose your PF. Your UAN remains the same throughout your career. Options: (1) Transfer old PF to new employer's PF account — recommended, keeps corpus growing without tax. (2) Withdraw full PF after 2 months of unemployment (10% TDS if withdrawn before 5 years of service). (3) Leave it — PF continues to earn interest even without contribution, but after 3 years it becomes "inoperative" and loses interest. Transfer is always the best option.
Do I need to file GST returns even if no sales happened?

Yes — even if you had zero sales in a month, you must file a "Nil Return" for both GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B on time. Late filing of nil returns attracts ₹20/day penalty (maximum ₹500). You cannot suspend your GST filing for inactive months — you must either file nil returns or cancel your GST registration if the business is permanently closed.
My CIBIL score is low. Can I still get a loan?

It depends on the score and lender. Below 650 — most banks will reject. 650–700 — some NBFCs and fintech lenders may approve at higher interest. Above 700 — most lenders will consider. Options for low score: (1) Add a co-applicant with good score. (2) Apply for a secured loan (loan against FD or gold — score doesn't matter much). (3) Work on improving score for 6–12 months first. (4) Some NBFCs consider alternate data (ITR, bank statements) beyond just CIBIL score.
