UPI = Bank account-க்கு directly connected payment. PIN = ATM PIN மாதிரி — இதை enter பண்ணா money goes. Money RECEIVE பண்ண: UPI ID share பண்ணுங்க, PIN வேண்டாம். Money SEND பண்ண: Recipient UPI ID enter → Amount → PIN enter. Simple rule: PIN = Send only. யாரும் receive-க்கு PIN கேட்டா — scammer!

Collect Request / Request Money Scam
🔴 Most Common▼
Scammer sends a "Collect Request" (money request) to your GPay/PhonePe. It looks like money is coming TO you. They say "Accept பண்ணா ₹10,000 கிடைக்கும்."
🎭 Scam Script: "Sir, I'm buying your OLX item. I'm sending ₹5,000 via GPay. Please accept the request." — Then they send a COLLECT request, not a payment.
✅ Protection: Collect request = YOU send money. Never accept collect requests from unknown people. Check direction of transaction in app before entering PIN.

Screen Share / Remote Access Scam
🔴 Dangerous▼
Scammer poses as bank/customer support. Asks you to install AnyDesk, Quick Support, TeamViewer app. Once installed, they see your entire screen — PIN as you type, OTP, passwords, bank balance.
🎭 Scam Script: "Your account has an issue. Install this app for verification. Share the 9-digit code shown." — Immediately they control your device.
✅ Protection: NEVER install any remote access app for "support." Real banks never ask for screen sharing. Uninstall AnyDesk/QuickSupport immediately if already installed.

Fake Customer Care / Bank Call
🔴 Very Common▼
Scammer calls claiming to be GPay/PhonePe/SBI customer care. Says "Your account will be blocked. Verify UPI PIN to keep it active." Gets your PIN and empties account.
🎭 Scam Script: "This is PhonePe security team. Your account shows suspicious activity. To keep your account active, please share your 6-digit UPI PIN for verification." — Total lie.
✅ Protection: No bank or UPI app EVER asks for PIN over phone. Hang up immediately. Call the official number from app/bank card to verify if concerned.

ATM / SIM Swap Fraud
🟡 Medium▼
Scammer calls mobile carrier with fake ID, gets your SIM swapped to their phone. They receive all your OTPs. Then access your bank accounts and UPI apps. Your phone signal suddenly disappears — sign of SIM swap.
🎭 Warning Sign: Suddenly no signal on phone. Can't make calls. Bank OTPs stopped coming → Call your carrier immediately.
✅ Protection: Keep biometric lock on SIM settings. Enable SIM lock PIN. Contact carrier immediately if signal lost unexpectedly. Check bank account immediately.

Fake QR Code Scam
🟡 Growing▼
Scammer replaces real QR codes at shops with fake ones. Or sends WhatsApp QR code claiming "scan to receive money." When you scan and enter PIN — money goes to scammer.
🎭 Common in: Physical shops where QR sticker placed over real QR. Also fake QR in "cashback offers" — "Scan this QR to claim ₹500 cashback."
✅ Protection: Scanning QR to RECEIVE money — impossible (QR code contains payment destination). Always verify recipient name after QR scan before entering PIN.

Lottery / Cashback / Refund Scam
🟡 Common▼
WhatsApp message / SMS: "You won ₹50,000 lottery! Send ₹100 processing fee to claim." Or "Amazon refund pending — share UPI details." Or "GPay cashback available — enter PIN to claim."
✅ Protection: You never win lotteries you didn't enter. Legitimate cashbacks are automatic — no PIN needed. Any "processing fee" for prize = scam.

Job / Part-Time Work Scam
🟡 Increasing▼
Telegram/WhatsApp job offer: "Like YouTube videos, earn ₹500/task." You do tasks, fake balance builds. Then to "withdraw," you must pay ₹1,000 "activation fee" via UPI. They keep asking more.
🎭 Script: "Complete these 5 tasks. Each pays ₹500. See your ₹2,500 balance! Pay ₹1,000 security deposit to withdraw." — You pay, they vanish.
✅ Protection: Legitimate part-time work never requires upfront payment. Visible fake balance in app = clear scam. No real employer asks payment to release your earnings.
10 UPI Safety Golden Rules

PIN = Send only — NEVER for receivingMoney receive-க்கு PIN தேவையில்லை. யாரும் "receive-க்கு PIN enter பண்ணு" சொன்னா — scammer. Period. No exceptions.

UPI PIN யாரோட கிட்டயும் share பண்ணாதீங்கNot to bank staff, not to UPI app support, not to family (unless necessary), not to "government officials." PIN is like ATM PIN — strictly personal.

OTP யாருக்கும் சொல்லாதீங்கOTP (One Time Password) phone-ku varum when you register/login. Never share OTP with anyone — it expires in 10 minutes but can cause huge damage in that time. Banks always say "Don't share OTP."

Payment before verify — Name check பண்ணுங்கUPI ID or phone number enter பண்ணினதும் — recipient name show ஆகும். Name verify பண்ணிட்டே amount type பண்ணுங்க. Wrong account-க்கு போனா return கிடைக்காது.

Screen share / Remote access apps — Never installAnyDesk, TeamViewer, QuickSupport — "customer care" help-க்கு இந்த apps install பண்றது = account emptying risk. Uninstall immediately if already have them from "support" call.

Unknown collect requests — Always DeclineUnknown person-கிட்ட இருந்து collect request வந்தா — Decline. Even if amount looks small. Even if they claim it's a "test transfer." Accepting = money leaves your account.
Public WiFi-ல UPI use பண்ணாதீங்கRailway station, cafe, hotel free WiFi — packet sniffing possible. UPI/banking transactions mobile data-ல மட்டுமே பண்ணுங்க. Public WiFi = security risk.

Wrong UPI ID-க்கு transfer ஆயிட்டா money திரும்ப கிடைக்குமா?+
Difficult but possible. Immediately: (1) UPI app-ல "Raise Dispute/Complaint" option. (2) Your bank customer care call — "Wrong account transfer, please initiate reversal." (3) NPCI dispute portal. If the recipient's bank can contact them and they agree to return — it comes back. If they refuse, legal action needed. Always double-check recipient name before PIN entry — prevention is the only sure way.
Default UPI per-transaction limit: ₹1 Lakh. Daily limit varies by bank (usually ₹1L–₹2L). Some banks allow up to ₹5L for special cases. To increase: Bank app → UPI settings → Increase daily limit (may need physical branch visit). For fraud protection, keeping daily limit lower is actually safer — limits damage if fraud occurs.
Scammer number block பண்ணினா போதுமா?+
No — blocking is good but not enough. Block the number AND: (1) Report to Sanchar Saathi portal (sancharsaathi.gov.in) — report cybercrime numbers. (2) File complaint at 1930. (3) Scammers often use multiple numbers — reporting creates investigation trail. If you've been defrauded, FIR and cybercrime complaint are mandatory regardless of blocking.
UPI PIN change பண்றது எப்படி?+
GPay: Open app → Payment methods → Bank account → Manage → Forgot/Change UPI PIN. PhonePe: Profile → Payment settings → UPI PIN → Change. Paytm: Profile → Privacy & Security → UPI PIN → Change. Change PIN immediately if: suspicious activity, shared PIN accidentally, or regularly every 3–6 months. New PIN: needs debit card last 6 digits + ATM PIN or OTP verification.
Key precautions for seniors: (1) Biometric lock only — no PIN type needed for basic transactions. (2) Transaction limit set low (₹2,000–₹5,000 per day). (3) Never answer unknown "bank" calls alone. (4) Do NOT show PIN to anyone. (5) Save only trusted UPI IDs — delete unused apps. (6) Family member as trusted contact in bank records. Regular fraud awareness conversations important — scammers specifically target seniors.
